Life for a community…

In ancient times wells were the centre of community life.

Without a well, communities would not survive. Before running water was made readily available communities would need the life-giving water from a well to water their crops, feed their livestock and sustain their families. In those days you would have to visit the community well daily to collect enough water for that day. There are still many nations in the world where this is a current reality for a great many people.

Today in Hull, of course, we do not need physical wells as we can simply turn on the tap whenever we need it. Yet wells are still very much needed. Not physical wells but metaphorical ones.

Every community in our city needs a place where they can go and receive life-giving sustainance. A place that is safe, where communities can gather, friends can be made, needs can be met and wounds can be healed. River City Church started The Well community venue to do just that.

River City are a group of Christians that desire to live out the words of Jesus. He once said anyone that came to Him would find life “in abundance” and that they could find life giving sustainance in relationship with Him. Those that belong to the River City Church family have foudn that to be true. Now they seek to serve their neighbourhood and do good to all, no matter their issues, background or preferences.

The effects of the pandemic have hurt many people in our City. At this time people need more support and hope than ever. The Well will officially open to the public in September. During the launch week there will be 3 days of community consulation where we listen to your views and needs. Tell us how we can help you and your family? What could we run here that would bring life again to East Hull?

Those that volunteer at The Well are a normal bunch of people. They’re not perfect and they are not claiming to have all the answers. However, each of them has been willing to say a quietly radical ‘yes’ in response to the needs around them. Whether you have any kind of faith or not, doesn’t matter. All are welcome to come and connect with us at The Well.
